Trials...What's the point?

Trials…What’s the point?

1 Peter 1:5-7 - 5) who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6) In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, 7) so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

I work with people in need daily. I can not tell you how many times over the past 6 years people have asked me "Why is this happening to me?". The answer is that I don't know exactly but God does give us some understanding through His word. Lets take a look and break down the passage above and list a couple of truths to go along with them.

Verse 5) who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

- Our all powerful God is protecting you and the believers salvation is secure.

Verse 6) In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials,

-Be glad in the truth of verse 5!

-trails are temporary

-there is a point to the trials (if necessary)

-trials are hard to deal with

-trials vary in kind

Verse 7) so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

-trials exist to test our faith

-trials ultimately are good for us

-proves our faith more genuine

-the reward is Christ

God uses trials for our good. As believers, he works everything for our good. However, we should not take this to mean that we will not suffer because we will suffer. We will endure trials as God sees necessary.

If you are going through a trial please know that God is with you and that the result of this trial for the believer is faith that is more genuine. Know that God wants you to know him better as a result of the trial. Seek Him in your trying times.

In Christ,

Rodney McClure, Chief Deeder
