Good Morning.
We alert you today of a mother and her 5 children that are in need of beds. However, before we get into the Need Alert details, we would like to make a special effort to point you to the LEARN step of this Need Alert.
We began offering a lesson with each Need Alert at the beginning of this year. We called the section LEARN and placed it under the “What You Can Do” section of each Need Alert. We have been encouraged by the response we have gotten to this point. The lessons are intended to better equip you in the work of the ministry during your daily lives between Sundays. We feel like all of the lessons are valuable and I myself have been better equipped through the lessons. However, we think the lesson in the LEARN step of this particular alert may be the fundamentally most important lesson to date. Ok…back to the Need Alert!
This single mother has 5 children and 1 child that is expected to be born in June. The children’s ages are 12, 11, 10, 8, and 6. The father has left them and the 6 of them have been living temporarily with the grandmother. The mother works 40 hour per week and does not receive any government assistance other than $194 per month in food stamps.
She has been able to secure a home across the street from the grandmother. As you can imagine the grandmother’s home is simply not big enough for all of them but they need to be close to her for child care. They are moving into the home on May 1st and do not have single piece of furniture. We are confident the mother will continue to work hard and the family will be able to acquire furniture as she is able to afford it. Keeping that in mind, we really want each child and the mother to at least have a bed and bedding.
We feel like it is important for a child to have a bed. We have worked with our partner in the area of home furnishings, SERV Store, and have been able to secure all of the beds and bedding. (If you want to learn more about SERV please CLICK HERE )
As soon as this need is met, SERV will ship the beds to the family’s new home. At that point, our local church partner will meet them at their home and help get them set up and while making a valuable personal connection to that local church.
